The Big Island. The Big Island. The Big Island. Really. It’s fantastic. Beaches on the west side. Hike in Volcano National Park.

Winter is generally the rainy season regardless of what island you are on, but generally the southern and western parts of the islands tend to be sunnier since the storms come out of the north.
If you go to Kauai in January, try to stay on the south shore (Poipu area) since the north shore (princeville) will be especially rainy. There is a reason most of the houses near Princeville are built on stilts.
Hawaii (Big island) is also nice, especially the Kona side. The Hilo side (eastern) is especially wet and rainy year-round. You should get sunny weather in Kona, but the area is dominated by big pricey resorts.
Oahu potentially has the most things to do, but is the most touristy and built up, so I tend to avoid it.
I haven’t been to Maui recently enough to provide more information.
