i know, i live on oahu and waikiki is SUPER rocky!!! definitely get reef shoes for both you and the kid, because if you step on rocks/coral…ouch!

go to the ihilani hotel. there are five ko’olina lagoons, and the bottoms are nice and sandy–very few rocks. don’t go during jellyfish season, though.

I also bought them for my 3 teens who surfed everyday and they loved them...you can get them at some ABC stores or usually in your Hotel Lobby Shoppes (we got ours at our Hotel..Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach) get them for your whole family and your whole out-look on Waikiki Beach will change...LOL...below I have given a couple sites Ko'olina Beach and Ala Moana Beach Park..as well as Lanikai you may be interested in...all are good places for people with young kids...~~Aloha~~ Caffeinated Content for WordPress

Just south of there is Lanikai which continues this trend. It’s probably the closest you are going to get to a Kauai-like experience, in terms of beach quality.
