The Harry Potter stories and films have an enthused group of followers in the world

I am deeply amazed by the great worldwide popularity of the Harry Potter novels. The Harry Potter novels were written by the UK writer J.K. Rowling. She saw the light of day on 31 July 1965. Her name is Joanne Rowling. But she writes under the alias J.K. Rowling because in the beginning her publisher considered it was a good move not to reveal the fact that she is female. The publisher feared it could have a negative effect on the sales numbers if everybody promptly recognizes that the writer is a woman. So, instead of showing her first name she used two initials. As she has no middle name she chose Kathleen as basis for the K. in her alias. Kathleen is the name of her fathers mother.

The very first Harry Potter story – Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone – was publicized in the year 1997 in the United Kingdom. Very remarkable is the aspect that only 1,000 pieces of the first story were printed at the beginning. The original title of the book was not Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, but Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. But when the novel was released to the American marketplace in the year 1998, it was published as Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.

After that J.K. wrote six more Harry Potter stories. Today the Harry Potter series consists of seven novels. These are:

  • Vol. 1: Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
  • Vol. 2: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  • Vol. 3: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  • Vol. 4: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • Vol. 5: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • Vol. 6: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  • Vol. 7: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The Harry Potter stories have been translated into over 50 languages and have been released in many countries. Besides the big success in the United States and the United Kingdom, Harry Potter is also very liked in the EU. The Harry Potter stories have been published to German readers under those headers:

I must admit that I did not have the time to read all those stories. But there are readers who know them all, which is very impressive and makes up the tremendous success.
