Find out what noise consultants actually do

Sound pollution is becoming quite a huge issue in most built-up environments today and recently I’ve begun to think that an acoustic consultant could do something to reduce sound levels.

As it happens, incessant noise pollution is not such a problem as sudden peaks and troughs although in the workplace, steady noise that isn’t hugely loud is quite often a problem and give rise to hearing loss.

One of the biggest human issues with noise is that it has an adverse impact on sleep quality and incessant low-level sleep deprivation is bad for psychological and thus physical health.

To an Acoustic engineer this ,of course, will be familiar territory. Acoustic engineers exploit the latest acoustic technology to log sound levels & pin-point sources of noise. By designing buildings to absorb noise energy they can significantly enhance the quality of life for anyone in the vicinity and thus improve their health as well.

One common problem is due to jet plane sound levels, especially near busy airports like Charles de Gaulle where jets fly in low over inhabited areas. Although there usually are controls on landing and take-off times, busy international & national airports tend to operate virtually 24 hours a day. Noise consultants are sometimes being used by airport protestors now to record volume levels and then to act as expert witnesses in environmental assessment studies.
