I would recommend Kauai or Maui. Hawaii is nice.

Bahamas is kind of dirty and not the ideal example of the Caribbean Islands. If you wanted to do the Caribbean, I would recommend St Johns if you can afford it.

Miami is kind of crazy and scary. Too much crime and if you wandered a block off the tourist area you could get into trouble. If you really wanted to do Florida, I would recommend Sanibel Island, St Augustine, or the Keys.

I would suggest you to visit Bhutan.

Bhutan, known to the Bhutanese as Drukyul, The land of the Thunder Dragon. In this hidden Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan you will feel the breath of mysteries and powers which still prevails. If there is magic left in this world, Bhutan is where you will find it.

In this unique and hidden kingdom, you will see the people and their way of life, the great Himalayan mountains on remote trekking routes, the colorful and genuinely traditional festivals, the citadels of Himalayan Buddhism; and you will feel the breath of mystery and power which still exists.

If you like really crowded areas go to Oahu. There you have the diamond head and pearl harbor. there is also a place where you can get the BEST malasadas which is deep fried dough with sugar on it. IT IS REALLY GOOD. and also there is alamoana center where there is the mall. If you like not really crowded places go to Maui because there they have white sandy beaches. you can go to Haleakala and see the sun rise, which is really beautiful. or go to iao valley and have a picnic. its really quiet there. theres a river there you can see so its soothing. And im not sure about Kauai but i heard it was nice there too. I used to live on Maui so i prefer Maui. But its your choice. And with the travel agency, i dont know about that either. if you want to see the islands and see the tourist places go to the travel agency. but if you like to travel and see the islands as how it is, plan it yourself and have an adventure. Theres always places for tourist there. One thing i forgot, in Maui there is a theater in Lahaina and you can go to it and see a show called ULALENA. I saw it, it was really nice.

I just booked my honeymoon for November in Kauai and Maui. Those are the two islands everyone recommended. Anyways, I tried going through a travel agent who was very helpful. But then I called the Costco travel agents and they gave me a great price. So I recommend you do some research online and then look at the Costco website.

Good luck planning.

BTW - after researching and talking to several people we decided to stay at the Hyatt in both islands. There have some great deals and are suppose to be beautiful.

Me and my husband went there last year, and we booked a vacation package through expedia.com. It was really easy and everything went totally smooth. The hotel was awesome... ocean view, the flight was great..I definetly recommend it. I did alot of research and we ended up paying so much less than other websites were charging. Be flexible on your days and keep putting in different combinations, you can get a great deal. We went for 6 days, flew out from Omaha, Nebraska...hotel and flight for 2 people was less than $1500..yeah!

I suggest that you go through a travel agent, DO NOT come to Oahu it is so busy and traffic you will spend hours here sitting traffic! I would suggest Kauai, I live on Oahu and I visited Maui and was not impressed I have lived here in Honolulu for 2 years we are a military family and our suggestions would be that you go to Kauai, or Kona not here you will spend the majority of your time sitting in traffic its just crazy here! But Good Luck and Congratulations!!!!!!!1

Definately use a travel agent for your flight and hotel. We honeymooned in Kauai and I thought I could get better deals myself. You can't. The travel agent got us better prices and she got us a better cottage than I would have gotten for the same money. It's your HONEYMOON - don't take any chances. Here's a tip though - don't book extras with your agent- helicopter ride, boat excursions etc. You get a better price if you book them when you get there - the companies have to pay the agents. We didn't know but luckily I couldn't make up my mind until we got there. If you like laid back and natural go to Kauai. Even Maui is very developed now. We opted for a cottage at a plantation in the town of Waimea. Very old Hawaii - not glitzy hotels. Before you go pick up a copy of "Hidden Kauai" - lots of local information you wouldn't know otherwise (local eats, locale of beach access, access to waterfalls etc). There is also "Hidden Maui" etc. Have fun!

We went thru a travel agency for our Hawaiian vacation. If you have the money, I think it's a easier way to go and that way you are guaranteed what you pay for. Plus, they can give you tips for activities to do and pre-book you for them. I'd recommend Oahu. It has the most tourist attractions and Waikiki Beach. Get a hotel on the beach or you will have to walk. You have to take the Grand Island Tour also!

If you are going to extend your visit, I would personally suggest the island of Oahu. I have been to Honolulu/Waikiki area 6 times and planning a 7th trip!!
If you go to Oahu, please visit the Polynesian Cultural Center! It is quite fantastic and stay for the evening show "Horizons" it is a fantastic show!
Buy a 4 day TheBus bus pass! It is really cool, and you can almost get around the whole island with it! It is really worth the money!
For an inexpensive restaurant in Waikiki, please go to the Seaside Bar and Grill! They have fantastic breakfast, and dinner there! We have gone there plenty of times for breakfast and a few times for dinner. They have specials all the time!
Have fun and enjoy your stay!!

Winter is generally the rainy season regardless of what island you are on, but generally the southern and western parts of the islands tend to be sunnier since the storms come out of the north.

If you go to Kauai in January, try to stay on the south shore (Poipu area) since the north shore (princeville) will be especially rainy. There is a reason most of the houses near Princeville are built on stilts.

Hawaii (Big island) is also nice, especially the Kona side. The Hilo side (eastern) is especially wet and rainy year-round. You should get sunny weather in Kona, but the area is dominated by big pricey resorts.

Oahu potentially has the most things to do, but is the most touristy and built up, so I tend to avoid it.

I haven't been to Maui recently enough to provide more information.

Each of the Hawaiian Islands has its own personality and character. So, knowing what type of person you are and what you like to do will help you decide which of the islands you will like.

If you like tourists and fishing you should like the Kona area of the “Big Island” of Hawaii. If you like solitude, a tropical feel, a rural atmosphere and you don’t mind rain, you should like
the Hilo area of the Big Island. The west side of the Big Island has a few nice small beaches, including black sand beaches. Near Ka Lae, the southernmost point of the island you will find a green sand beach. Big beaches are not prevalent on the Big Island.

If you enjoy scenery, hiking, snorkeling, kayaking or surfing and don’t yearn for “night life” then the oldest of the islands, Kauai is for you.

If you are the kind of person who keep a bathing suit, snorkel gear or a surfboard in your car, then Maui is for you, because it has 120 miles of easily accessible and swimmable coastline, more than any other island.

If you have an artistic temperament or perhaps you like to get away and write, then seek out the island of Lanai.

If you love nature, hiking and solitude, then “the most Hawaiian” of the islands, Molokai is for you.

You’ll enjoy Oahu if you like beaches, shopping, tourists, high-rises, traffic and don’t mind a lot of other people. Honolulu is like a tropical version of NYC, or LA as it was in the smog-free 1950's.

Kauai

Credit cards, loans, etc. If you are planning to buy anything big, shop around before you do so, some loan companies are offering major travel points for a loan, especially like American Express.

If you use a credit card between now and when you travel you need to find a credit card that earns you points, maybe you can get one ticket free.

Now friends can give you points on some airlines, beg, plead, maybe someone will give you one as a gift.

Check with any friends who work for the airlines they may be able to get you a $50 pass, but you have to fly standby. But most airlines are not over booked to Hawaii.

If you want to stay near North America, try Costa Rica. The Caribbean coast isn't really built up. Belize is also great and not too touristy. In the Caribbean, I love Tortola in the British Virgin Islands - not built up or too touristy. You can also try Virgin Gorda which is even less touristy and gorgeous.

In Europe I would recommend Croatia. There are so many islands that you can find some that aren't too touristy.

If you want to go further and really want a desert island experience, I'd suggest Malaysia, especiallly the islands off the Northeast Coast - Perhentian Islands, Redang, etc. It might cost you more to get there, but once you are there it's incredibly cheap. You can get a basic hut on the beach in the Perhentians for about US$10/night, or pay $60/night for an airconditioned bungalow. Food is amazing, people are nice and it's really gorgeous for snorkeling and scuba.
